Aventura, FL (November, 2009) – Aventura Hospital and Medical Center and the Aventura Comprehensive Cancer Center are committed to raising awareness about the risks associated with lung cancer and the new innovative treatment options that are available. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death for both men and women, according to the American Cancer Society. Although the disease is rare among people under the age of 45, more people die from lung cancer than from colon, breast, and prostate cancers combined.
In conjunction with November’s recognition of National Lung Cancer Awareness Month and as part of the ongoing 10 year anniversary celebration of the dedication of the Aventura Comprehensive Cancer Center, Aventura Hospital and Medical Center and the Aventura Comprehensive Cancer Center will sponsor a free educational seminar entitled, “Lung Health Awareness” on Tuesday, November 10 at 12:00 noon. Luis Echarte, MD, Critical Care Pulmonology, and Matthew Abramowitz, MD, Radiation Oncologist, will host a panel discussion for the community highlighting the latest research developments, advancements in detection and treatment, and preventive measures to promote a smoke-free and cancer-free lifestyle.
The average lifetime chance that a person will develop lung cancer is one in thirteen for men and one in sixteen for woman. It has been predicted that in 2009 approximately 215,020 new cases of lung cancer will be detected in the United States and that approximately 161,840 people will die of this disease. Although these numbers include both smokers and non-smokers, the risks are much greater for smokers.
In addition to offering a full range of diagnostic and treatment services that are supervised by board certified medical professionals, the Aventura Comprehensive Cancer Center also offers the first and only Synergy S treatment system in South Florida, providing hope through its advanced treatment capabilities.
To learn more about these and other available treatment options, join us on November 10 at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center Medical Arts Building, 21110 Biscayne Boulevard, Suite 101, Aventura, FL. For more information on this free seminar and to RSVP, please call 1-888-256-7692. Light luncheon will be served. Free garage parking is also available.
