Aventura Hospital and Medical Center Receives American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award & Opens New Endovascular Lab

Aventura, FL (December, 2009) – Aventura Hospital and Medical Center invites the community to a special milestone event on Wednesday, December 16.  Beginning at 4:30pm in the mezzanine, Aventura Hospital and Medical Center will be presented with the American Stroke Association’s Get With The GuidelinesSM–Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award. The award recognizes Aventura Hospital and Medical Center’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment for at least 24 months according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations.

“With a stroke, time lost is brain lost, and the Get With The Guidelines–Stroke Gold Performance Achievement Award addresses the important element of time,” said Heather J. Rohan, Chief Executive Officer at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center.

Following the awards presentation, guests will be invited to join the Heather Rohan, the Medical Staff, and the Board of Trustees in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory for a special ceremony to unveil the new Endovascular Lab at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center.  As part of Aventura Hospital’s continued commitment to improving the quality of care for our stroke patients and cardiac patients, the new Endovascular Lab provides state-of-the-art treatment for non-cardiac vascular conditions such as clogged, collapsed or compressed blood vessels.

Endovascular Intervention is a minimally invasive procedure in which the physician inserts a catheter through the blood vessels and, using advanced imaging technology, guides the catheter through the blood vessel to the exact necessary location in order to clean and clear out the blocked vessel using stents, balloons, and other specialized devises.
