Aventura Hospital and Medical Center Raises "Hope" for Families in Need

May, 2010 – Aventura Hospital and Medical Center was recently honored by its parent company HCA, Inc. in Nashville, Tennessee for its successful efforts to raise money for the HCA Hope Fund, a nationwide fund created by HCA to provide much needed support to employees and their families in times of great need.  For 2009 Aventura Hospital ranked number 1 in the entire company for overall employee participation by a mid-sized hospital, with 62 percent of its employees donating towards the fund to aid their colleagues both locally and nationwide.

“At Aventura Hospital and Medical Center we are all part of one extended family,” said Heather J. Rohan, Chief Executive Officer at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, “Just as we are dedicated to improving the lives of our patients we are also committed to each other.  That familial spirit is what drives us as caregivers and as humanitarians.  I am so proud to be a part of the Aventura Hospital family.”

Judy Newell, Lead Coordinator of H2U and the Volunteers, chaired the Hope Fund campaign at Aventura Hospital and was recently elected to the HCA Hope Fund’s national Board of Trustees.

“The Hope Fund has helped so many people at our own hospital and at our sister hospitals,” Judy commented, “We give for others because we know that if we were in need of aid, others would give for us.  That’s what families do for one another.”

To date, the Hope Fund has helped more than 9,000 families in need and distributed $9.7 million in aid.  The amount of money raised from employees totals $1.8 million.  Families that have benefited from Hope Fund aid include victims of natural disasters, such as the recent earthquake in Haiti, people with disabilities, and victims of various other medical or economic hardships.
