Aventura Hospital and Medical Center Appoints Dr. Jonathan Cross as the Medical Director of the Primary Stroke Center

Aventura Hospital and Medical Center is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Jonathan Cross as new Medical Director of the Primary Stroke Center.  Dr. Cross has been an active member of the medical staff of Aventura Hospital and Medical Center since 2000 and recently joined the hospital’s Board of Trustees. 

Dr. Cross has been instrumental over the past few years in helping to develop and expand Aventura Hospital’s Primary Stroke Center, which earned a Certificate of Distinction and recertification by the Joint Commission last November and also became the first program in Dade County to earn the American Stroke Association’s Get With the Guidelines – Stroke (GWTG-Stroke) Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award.  The award recognizes Aventura Hospital’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations.

Rohan, Chief Executive Officer of Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, “He displays the qualities of a true leader.  Dr. Cross is a skilled communicator and compassionate medical professional to patients, family and to staff.”

In addition to his expertise as a caregiver, Dr. Cross participates in the orientation and training of new nurses and was an important part of bringing the Arctic Sun to Aventura Hospital, which is used to rapidly cool the body temperature for high risk heart attack and stroke patients in order to preserve normal baseline brain activity.

Dr. Jonathan Cross is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology.  He completed his Residency and Fellowship in Neurology at the University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial Medical School in Miami, Florida.
