Julie Millar, RN, Promoted to Associate Chief Nursing Officer at Aventura Hospital

Aventura, FL (January 20, 2010) - Aventura Hospital and Medical Center is proud to announce the promotion of Julie Millar, RN, to the role of Associate Chief Nursing Officer.  Mrs. Millar has served for the past two and half years as the Director of Emergency Services at Aventura Hospital.  During her tenure, she has worked closely with the Medical Director, Dr. Roman Skylar and with Miami Dade Fire and Rescue to implement new protocols that allowed the average wait time at Aventura Hospital’s Emergency Room to be reduced to less than ten minutes each month and to provide STENT intervention to heart attack patients within 60 minutes or less.

Julie Millar has also helped to oversee the introduction of a new induced hypothermia program called Code Ice.  The procedure involves rapidly reducing the body temperature of patients suffering from cardiac arrest in order to save brain function.  In addition, Aventura Hospital and Medical Center recently became the first and only Primary Stroke Program in Dade County to earn the American Stroke Association/American Heart Association Get With the Guidelines - Stroke (GWTG – Stroke) Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award.  The award recognizes Aventura Hospital’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment for at least 24 months according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations.  The hospital’s rise in ranking from bronze status to gold status is among the fastest in the nation.

As a Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) officer, Julie Millar has worked to improve patient satisfaction scores throughout the hospital.  The ER’s overall patient satisfaction score has risen to the top 25th percentile of the entire HCA hospital chain, which consists of 161 hospitals nationwide and abroad, and the ER has been successful with 100% of its ER core measures, a Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) measured quality initiative for 2009.  These accomplishments all occurred during the Emergency Room’s busiest season to date.  In 2009, Aventura Hospital’s Emergency Department saw an increase in volume of 25% over 2008.

“Julie’s record speaks for itself,” said Heather Rohan, Chief Executive Office of Aventura Hospital and Medical Center.  “Our ED is recognized as one of the best for all our HCA sister facilities.  Julie will undoubtedly serve Aventura Hospital and our community well in her new role as Associate Chief Nursing Officer.”
