Jewish Family Room at Aventura Hospital Celebrates One Year Anniversary

Aventura, FL (January 26th 2010) - In the Fall of 2008, Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, under the leadership of hospital CEO Heather Rohan, opened the Gesher Tzedaka Jewish Hospitality Room to provide support services for the comfort of their Jewish patients and families.  Founded by Mrs. Miriam Alexander of the Yehuda Memorial Center Foundation and Mr. Efraim Fixler of Gesher Tzedaka, a local nonprofit that assists Jewish families in need, the room has become a welcome addition to the hospital’s many amenities for its patients and their families, providing everything from Kosher meals to religious books.

Rabbi Yisroel Brusowankin from the Aventura Chabad, one of the hospital chaplains, had a first-hand experience with the Gesher Tzedaka Jewish Family Room’s caring atmosphere and the warm welcome his own father received as a patient.

“As one of the chaplains of Aventura Hospital,“ said Rabbi Brusowankin, “  I have had the pleasure of interacting with  hospital CEO Heather  Rohan on a few occasions. I find her to be a unique blend of professionalism and sensitivity. Under her inspired leadership, Aventura Hospital has become a very welcoming place for Jewish patients and visitors. The Gesher Tzedaka Jewish Family Room has become a virtual oasis for Jewish patients and visitors, providing vital support services for Jewish patients and their families including kosher food, facilities, Jewish books and CD’s, internet access, and a calm and serene setting for a Shabbat family meal or just a place to relax. As a further service to Jewish families, the hospital boasts a Shabbat elevator enabling more people to visit their friends and families on the Shabbat and Jewish holidays.  I personally benefit from Heather’s accommodating and very encouraging manner in regards to my weekly patient visitations, as well as my holiday programs. She makes me feel comfortable and appreciated so that I in turn can convey these feelings to the patients and their families. I have also seen her interact with individual patients and convey to them the feeling that they are truly cared for and that their needs and concerns are important to her.”

“We are extremely grateful to Mr. Fixler and Mrs. Alexander for their warm generosity in dedicating this special room,” remarked Heather Rohan, “The Jewish Hospitality Room is not just a gift for our hospital but for all Jewish visitors, observant or not, who seek a quiet place to rest while waiting to see a loved one.”
