Graduate Medical Education


On September 25, 2013, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) granted initial accreditation to begin Aventura Hospital and Medical Center's first residency training program in Internal Medicine. The Internal Medicine Residency Training Program formally began on July 1, 2014 and recruited 12 internal medicine resident positions. We are pleased to announce that as of September 18, 2015 our program is fully accredited. It now comprises of a total of 30 residents with 10 positions offered every year.

Additionally on March 22, 2016 and April 21, 2016, Aventura Hospital and Medical Center was granted accreditation to begin residency training programs in Transitional Year and Emergency Medicine, respectively. Both programs officially began on July 1st 2016 with 13 Transitional Year resident positions and 10 Emergency Medicine resident positions.

The Internal Medicine and Transitional Year Residency Programs are led by Hamid R. Feiz, M.D., F.H.M., who has over 10 years of experience in teaching and training the next generation of physicians. The Emergency Medicine Residency Program is led by Todd L. Slesinger, M.D., who has been teaching in the fields of Emergency Medicine and Critical Care since 2001. Dr. Slesinger is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and Critical Care at Florida International University - Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine.

Furthermore, Aventura Hospital and Medical Center also participates in the General Surgery residency training program, also sponsored by Hospital Corporation of America (HCA). The General Surgery program located out of Kendall Regional Medical Center received its accreditation in November 2013, and works in close partnership with Aventura Hospital and Medical Center.
