Aventura Hospital and Medical Center is pleased to announce that on September 25, 2013, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) granted initial accreditation to begin the hospital’s first residency training program in Internal Medicine. The Internal Medicine Residency Training Program formally began on July 1, 2014 and recruited 12 internal medicine resident positions. A total of 30 residents are planned for the program. The Internal Medicine Residency Training Program will be led by Hamid R. Feiz, M.D., F.H.M., who has over 10 years of experience in teaching and training the next generation of physicians.
In addition to its Internal Medicine residency training program, Aventura Hospital and Medical Center participates in the General Surgery residency training program, also sponsored by Hospital Corporation of America (HCA). The General Surgery program located out of Kendall Regional Medical Center received its accreditation in November 2013, and works in close partnership with Aventura Hospital and Medical Center.
Aventura Hospital and Medical Center also received its initial institutional approval from the ACGME; the Review Committee approved the institutional accreditation through October 2015. This final step completed the lengthy process for accreditation as a training facility. Institutional accreditation allows Aventura Hospital and Medical Center to establish additional residencies in multiple specialties.
