(Aventura – February, 2010) In November, 2009 Aventura Hospital and Medical Center partnered with Bnai Zion Foundation to create a physician education exchange program. The program is designed to share important healthcare strategies between Bnai Zion Medical Center in Haifa, Israel and Aventura Hospital in South Florida. Dr. Michael Kafka, Medical Director of Emergency Services at Bnai Zion Medical Center, became the first special guest, educating Aventura Hospital’s emergency staff and the medical community on important protocols and procedures that have been developed in Israel to immediately respond and effectively treat mass casualties.
Following the success of November’s exchange program, in early March, Aventura Hospital will welcome another expert in his field: Dr. Noam Calderon, Medical Director at Bnai Zion Medical Center of a special Limb Salvage program for patients suffering from diabetes. Dr. Calderon will share his expertise on the uses of ozone gas to save many limbs that were previously thought to require amputation.
Gerald Schwartz, president of the Bnai Zion Foundation in Florida, said "The interchange between Aventura Hospital and the Bnai Zion Hospital and Medical Center in Haifa, Israel, is a natural. Both have experience in dealing with unexpected emergencies. Dr. Calderon's research involving saving limbs of diabetic patients is of special interest to Aventura and its large community of seniors."
“We are certainly excited to welcome Dr. Calderon to our facility,” remarked Judy Newman, Director of Diabetes Education and the Wound Care Center at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, “We have a similar program here at our wound care center where we use hyperbaric oxygen therapy to help heal difficult wounds, especially in our diabetic patients. We will look to apply these innovative methods developed at Bnai Zion to our own program here to provide even better outcomes for our patients.”
Events begin on Tuesday, March 9th when Aventura Hospital and the Aventura Marketing Council will host a special welcome reception for Dr. Noam Calderon at Racks Italian Bistro and Market in Sunny Isles Beach. On March 10th, at Aventura Hospital’s Biscayne Medical Arts Building at 21110 Biscayne Boulevard, Suite 101 in Aventura, the community will have 2 opportunities to attend this special seminar: 12:00pm and again at 5:30pm. Lunch and Dinner will be served respectively. The program is open to the community, and 1.5 CME/1.5 CEU will be offered for medical professionals.
