Aventura Hospital and Comprehensive Cancer Center Partners With the Community in the Fight Against Prostate Cancer
September 7, 2010, Aventura, FL – Aventura Hospital and Medical Center and Aventura Comprehensive Cancer Center is recognizing National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month with three community events in September.
The “Know Your Stats about Prostate Cancer” seminar, scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. at the Aventura Community Recreation Center, and the “The Latest Updates on Robotic Surgery” event on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 5:30 p.m. at Aventura Hospital and Medica Center, will focus on Robotic Surgery for Prostatectomy and other advanced treatments, as well as the state-of-the-art choices only offered at Aventura.
The “Know Your Stats about Prostate Cancer” seminar will feature urologist Dr. David Robbins, and the “The Latest Updates on Robotic Surgery” event will include Drs. Henry Wodnicki (colorectal surgery), Frank Cirisano (gynecological oncology), Alfredo Rego (cardio-thoracic surgery), and Robbins.
On Saturday, Sept. 11, the Aventura Comprehensive Cancer Center partnered with the City of Hallandale Beach’s Hepburn Community Center, the American Cancer Society, Memorial Cancer Institute and the Prostate Awareness and Research Institute to host a community prostate health screening and education event. This event has now become part of an annual tradition of meeting the community’s healthcare needs.
“I am honored to be a part of such an outstanding community effort,” remarked Dr. Lopez, while surveying the dedication demonstrated by community partners and staff at the Austin Hepburn Center of the City of Hallandale Beach this past Saturday.
“There must have been at least 200 in attendance,” stated Victor DeSouza of the Hepburn Center. “And to think of all the lives we hopefully changed for the better.”
Attendees listened to physician presentations, visited health information booths and participated in a free prostate screening. Aventura Hospital-affiliated urologist Dr. Barbara Montford educated the audience on the prevalence and detection of prostate disease, while Cancer Center Medical Director Dr. Carlos Lopez highlighted the advanced prostate treatment capabilities of the new Synergy S system, only available at the Aventura Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Those in need of further support and education may attend the monthly Man-to-Man Prostate Support Group at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, co-
sponsored by the American Cancer Society and Aventura Comprehensive Cancer Center. For further information on prostate health awareness please call the
Cancer Center at 305-682-2151.
