Aventura, FL (November 2009) - Heather J. Rohan, FACHE, the Chief Executive Officer of Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, was recently honored at Barry University’s Distinguished Alumni Awards for her 30 years of leadership and healthcare experience and for her service to Barry University, her alma mater.
“I am truly honored to be recognized as a Distinguished Alumni,” remarked Ms. Rohan, “I owe much of who I am today to the support and guidance that Barry University has provided me through the years.”
Ms Rohan’s expansive and impressive career in healthcare has included holding leadership roles in both the administrative and clinical areas for more than 25 years, including serving as Chief Nursing Officer at Cedars Medical Center in Miami, Chief Executive Officer at Pompano Regional Medical Center and Palms West Hospital, and as previous Chief Operating Officer of Aventura Hospital and Medical Center.
Ms. Rohan returned to Aventura Hospital and Medical Center as Chief Executive Officer in October 2005. Since then, she has overseen numerous improvements to the facility. Under her leadership, Aventura Hospital became the first in South Florida to install the da Vinci S HD Robot. The hospital’s Stroke Program was also the first in Dade County to earn The Joint Commission Primary Stroke Center Certification Program Gold Seal of Approval for healthcare quality.
Ms. Rohan has worked diligently with local EMS groups such as Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to implement new measures within the Emergency Department and to install innovative technology, such as a 64-Slice CT Scanner. These improvements have reduced the average wait time within the ER to less than 10 minutes and the Cardiac Catheterization Lab’s average STEMI time to less than 60 minutes, paving the way for Aventura Hospital to become a fully accredited Chest Pain Center by the American Society of Chest Pain Centers.
Ms. Rohan knows it is people that make a difference in any organization, especially healthcare. Her attentiveness to patient service excellence is emulated throughout every department of the hospital. Ms. Rohan is also actively involved in numerous charities and makes giving back to her community a top priority. She has earned recognition such as: “Women of Distinction and Caring,” from The Hebrew Homes Plaza Health Network in 2008, ‘CEO of the Year’ from “The South Florida Business Journal” publication, was voted by The March of Dimes as a “Woman of Distinction,” and is recipient of the 2009 Anti-Defamation League “Community of Respect” award.
With her roots in Nursing, Ms. Rohan earned both her BSN and her MBA degrees from Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Ms Rohan has served as an Adjunct Professor for the School of Nursing and recently was appointed to an Advisory Council for the Barry University School of Business. Aventura Hospital and Medical Center works very closely with the School of Nursing for clinical rotations in providing an enriching experience for our future nurses.
