Aventura, FL (October 21, 2009) – Aventura Hospital and Medical Center CEO Heather J. Rohan was joined by Board of Trustees, leading members of HCA’s East Florida Division, representatives from various skilled nursing facilities, hospital employees and physicians for the special grand opening of the Orthopedic and Spine Institute at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center.
“Today’s grand opening is the result of months of dedicated collaboration on the part of our physicians and hospital staff to develop a comprehensive patient care program for joint replacement surgeries,” said Rohan. “Our program is designed to guide patients and their families through each stage of treatment and recovery from admission through follow-up outpatient rehabilitation. Also, we continue our commitment of expanding our surgical services by developing a similar quality care program for spine surgeries.”
The team of professionals of the Orthopedic and Spine Institute at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center includes specially trained orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons, skilled nurses, physical therapists, and occupational therapists who have worked to develop useful educational materials for patients and their families to help them better understand their care and treatment plans. Those materials include newsletters for hip and knee patients highlighting what they can expect for each day from surgery through discharge. A new Orthopedic Care Guidebook provides detailed information about their surgery and follow-up care, and a special discharge manual provides patients with resources and tools for continuing their therapy either at a skilled nursing facility or at Aventura Hospital’s Outpatient Rehabilitation Center.
At the grand opening for the new Orthopedic and Spine Institute, surgeons from Aventura Hospital and Medical Center’s medical staff cut a ribbon to unveil the new inpatient rehabilitation gym, designed to get patients on their feet and undergoing occupational and physical therapy immediately following surgery.
“This is a great start to developing an important program that meets the needs of the patient and the physicians alike,” said Dr. Michael Dennis, Chief of Orthopedics at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, “We are very excited to continue to build upon the successes of this program to ensure the highest quality care for our patients.”
