Aventura, Florida - Thursday, April 22, 2010 marked a special day for Aventura Hospital and Medical Center employees and their children as they participated in the annual Bring Your Children to Work Day national celebration. Forty-seven children of employees, ages 8-12, participated in the day’s activities. This year’s Bring Your Children to Work Day consisted of an entertaining program that gave the children a taste of what it is like to work in a hospital and care for patients.
Aventura CEO Heather Rohan greeted the children at a special breakfast reception. Infection Control Director Arlene Merrill reminded the children that the most important way to prevent the spread of infections is to wash their hands. Miami Dade Fire Rescue gave the children a special tour of one of their fire engines, and Bertha Whaley, an Occupational Therapist from the Aventura Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, demonstrated how she helps to rehabilitate patients.
Amidst the cookie decorating and ice cream socials, the children also learned the importance safety and emergency and surgical support. Activities included special guest appearances from the Aventura Police Department, a safety poster-making contest, a special demonstration about how to administer CPR by Hannah Rabinowitz, RN, and even a mock surgical case.
