Aventura, Fla. - (September 21, 2007) - Aventura Hospital and Medical Center announced the acquisition of the da Vinci Surgical S HD™ Surgical System for mitral valve repair, prostatectomy and hysterectomy. The da Vinci Surgical S HD™ System is the world’s first robotic surgical system with 3HD Vision, enhanced dexterity, precision and control. Aventura Hospital and Medical Center is the first facility to acquire the da Vinci S HD™ in Miami-Dade County.

With da Vinci S HD™ Surgical System, small incisions are used to introduce miniaturized wrist instruments and a high-definition 3D camera. Seated comfortably at the da Vinci S HD™ console, the surgeon views a magnified, high-resolution 3D image of the surgical site. At the same time, state-of-the-art robotic and computer technologies scale, filter and seamlessly translate your surgeon's hand movements into precise micro-movements of the da Vinci S HD™ instruments. The System cannot be programmed, nor can it make decisions on its own. Rather, the da Vinci S HD™ requires that every surgical maneuver be performed with direct input from the surgeon.
For many patients, the da Vinci S HD™ offers numerous benefits over open prostatectomy which may include: shorter hospital stay, less post-operative pain and faster recovery, less risk of infection, decreased blood loss, less scaring, quicker return to normal activities and anticipation of improved potency and continence. Also, the da Vinci S HD™ enables surgeons to offer an extremely effective treatment for aortic (mitral) valve prolapse while using the latest invasive surgical approach available. The dynamic atrial retraction with the 4th arm, da Vinci-controlled endowrist atrial retractor allows the surgeon to adapt and optimize exposure of the entire mitral valve as needed, from the console.
