Aventura Hospital and Medical Center Celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 1, 2010, Aventura, FL – Aventura Hospital and Medical Center and the Aventura Comprehensive Cancer Center are celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month throughout October with several special commemorative events and lectures that promise to bring together colorful groups of healthcare professionals, community leaders, volunteers, and survivors.
 
On Tuesday, October 5th at 4:30 p.m., Aventura Hospital and Medical Center and the Aventura Comprehensive Cancer Center will host a special Breast Cancer Awareness Month kick-off celebration in the hospital’s main lobby and mezzanine.  Guests will be reminded about the importance of early detection and treated to an afternoon of music, food and fun. At dusk, the exterior of the hospital will be illuminated in PINK, and it will remain lit in PINK throughout the month of October.

The American Cancer Society's most recent estimates for the United States show that about 207,090 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in 2010. This year alone, approximately 39,840 women will die from breast cancer. When detected early, women diagnosed with breast cancer have a survival rate of more than 96 percent. Early detection is the key to survival.

Two special community lectures are also planned on breast health awareness. Each will highlight the latest in diagnostic treatment and technologies and featuring special guest speakers from our medical staff, including:

Aventura Hospital and Medical Center will close the month off with a “Women’s Night Out” Breast Cancer Awareness Month celebration on Thursday, October 28th from 4pm-7pm at the Aventura Comprehensive Cancer Center building, located at 20950 NE 27th Court. The event will celebrate survival, strength and courage with testimonials from survivors, as well as some special announcements from leading members of our medical staff involved in breast cancer care. Women of all ages are invited to come out and enjoy an afternoon of relaxation and entertainment designed to celebrate women and everything they love. The event will highlight beauty, fashion, health and nutrition. There will be free food, music and fun for all to enjoy.
